Famous Sports Leagues in the United States of America (Part 1)

Like most nations worldwide, football, baseball, basketball, and ice hockey are the most popular and famous sports played in the United States of America. They are also the most-watched sports in the USA.

Each of the sports has its major professional sports league, including the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Hockey League (NHL), respectively.

1/ Football (NFL)

With the attraction of fame and money, football is the most well-known sport in the USA. The list of the highest-paid players in the world is dominated by American football players.

The National Football League (NFL) is the biggest competition in the country. Notably, football is more popular in the Southern areas of America, such as Florida, Texas, and California.

American people not only watch football at their homes but also come by thousands to watch football matches on stadiums. In 2012, the NFL attracted an average attendance of over 67,500 fans at each game.

2/ Baseball (MLB)

Known as the USA’s national pastime, baseball is the second most popular sport in the country. There are two primary levels of baseball competition, namely minor league baseball and major league baseball. The most-watched baseball league in the USA is the Major League Baseball (MLB). A huge number of watchers are following baseball matches in the USA.

3/ Basketball (NBA)

After football and baseball, basketball is the third most popular sport in the USA. Each basketball match attracts an estimated 14,000 attendance.  

The biggest basketball competitions are held under the National Basketball Association (NBA). The association produces some greatest basketball players in the USA, namely LeBron James and Micheal Jorden.

4/ Ice Hockey (NHL)

Ice hockey or hockey is the fourth most popular sport in the USA. Notably, the sport is more prevalent in the areas of North America, such as Canada and Europe.

The National Hockey League (NHL) is the highest-level for male hockey in North America. The American national team won its first gold medal in Winters Olympics.
